What application are you printing from?

So, please post the printer information (make, model, connection type, etc), and the drivers you have installed for this printer (cups, lpr, etc).

The printer is on the desktop local host using USB I have downloaded and installed via synaptic package manager the latest HPLIP 10.3.6 and then all of HPIJS 10.3.6 as recommended by HP. The cups package was made available via an upgrade notice which I down loaded and installed. The printer shows properly in system/administration/printing. when I try to print it shows the message "print job sent to deskjet 2660" and a short time later it shows a notice that the print job job has finished. the
    ipp://localhost:631/printers/Deskjet-D2600-series.
The serial number shows properly CN9ANDF0ZT05C9
    cups uri hp:/DeskJet_D2600_series?serial = CN9ANDF0ZT05C9
    ghostscript is 8.71

/etc/init.d/cups status always shows cupsd is up and running.
the hp site says that the later versions of hplip use hpcups for inkjet printers instead of hpijs . hpcups is installed but I got an error message(log) that said couldn't find hpijs so I installed it at that time, didn't solve the problem. There is only one user "john" and there was never a workgroup name assigned. It seem that the print job is being sent somewhere else. I do not have any other printer and all the diagnostics say that it is local host not a line printer
Is there any thing else that I cold tell you? I can list all of the hplip packages assigned and for present any other file info that may help.
    Tnx
