[SOLVED] I need Windows XP to get Ubuntu 10.04 going...

Using Ubuntu, I just installed the wireless on my router/modem. It worked like a charm.
I shut down my SONY laptop and some few hours later restarted. I received the pop-up message saying I was connected to my modem. But I could not access the Internet.
I then loaded Windows XP and everything worked just fine. I reloaded Ubuntu 10.04 and now it came up running with no problems. I tried this three more times and each time I had to start Windows XP and then start Ubuntu, before I could access the Internet using Ubuntu.
I have googled this problem but to no avail. I feel I have to do something relatively simple to get Ubuntu to connect, but of course I don't know what. Any suggestions?

To start, boot into Ubuntu as you do when it fails to work, open a terminal, and post the output of the following commands.

    Code:
    lshw -C network
    lsmod
    cat /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state
(The last should just return a single number.)

    Thank you reed9,
I just now discovered that there was a problem when I installed Ubuntu 10.04. There was no indication, but as I was working on my problem, everything locked up and Ubuntu would not load any more. I did a clean install and everything works very well.
But thank you for your reply.
