Ubuntu 9.10 on my Fujitsu Siemens Li 1718 Laptop... Keyboard and mousepad problems.

Yep. Keyboard and mousepad wonīt work on my laptop. My laptop is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1718.

I installed ubuntu 9.10 with USB method. First I tried to install newer version of ubuntu (10.1 ?) but installation freezed at some point. During the 9.10 installation i only could use mouse wich i plugged in to the USB port, cause the keyboard and mousepad were not working.

I want to get the laptopīs own mousepad and keyboard working, because i donīt want to use USB devices all the time. It is supposed to be easy-to-take-with device But there seems to be no drivers around anywhere.

I am total newbie with linux world. I istalled Linux because my windows got all the time too damn buggy and slow. I was prepared for problems but here i know no solutions.

Do you, allmighty linux nerds, know any common solutins for these kind of laptop problems? Or should there just be somekind of drivers for this? Couldnīt find anything for linux. Other people have had problems with wireles system, but that ainīt my biggest problem now

Maybe i need to try other distributions... Is there any other easy-to-use and fine-working distros avaible than ubuntu?

Try Ubuntu 9.04. I have found that it works better with old/weird hardware than 9.10 or 10.04. You can still download it and install from USB drive or CD/DVD. FWIW, Ubuntu 9.04 works really, really well with just about any hardware I have found for laptops and other USB hardware (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, webcam, keyboards, mice) hardware. At this point, it's my preferred laptop distribution.

Yep, everything works like dream, atleast this far.

Really, if someone has older hardware, like my fujitsy laptop, it can be recommented to try ubuntu versio 9.04. Newer versions i tried didnt either install (10.10?) or they weren't syncroniced with hardware (9.10).

I installed it from usb with Unetbootin software... Got it working, tho i first though that installation freezed at the begigning. Just a litle patience and good results come

I love this, comparing to windows this ubuntu feels simple, secure and nicely working. I only want my laptop to be as internet/e-mail/irc/messenger machine. Also, I want sometimes to write and print documents and use "excel". I get to them later on, but now i'm just getting known to this system...

    Thanks!
