Live CD asks for login and password dual installation with xp gives me error

I requested Ubuntu 10.04 I got it from cononical . I really loved it.
I sololey installed it but the ubuntu made partition inside his C: partition . Later I installed windows xp in d: drive now Ubuntu does not work nor I can see ubuntu installation files in C: (so I cant remove them either )

I cant run Live CD as it asks for Login and Password I give my previous installtion password but that brings authentication error .

And i click "try ubuntu" after that there is some loading and a login windows appears no matter what username and password i give or leave it blank the outcome is authentication error . I googled this and found some other people have asked similar question on Linux forums but there was no sufficient reply for that . Yes i am booting right . This didn't happen when i first time installed ubuntu

If I try to run Ubuntu CD within winXP it says.........

    (((((An error occurred:

    list index out of range

For more information, please see the log file: d:docume~1\asifna~1\locals~1\temp\wubi-10.04-rev189.log)))))))))))

What is heppening how can I recover my space occupied by Ubuntu and how can I install it again.
    Please help me

Windows install to a secondary drive is not a good idea, it will write some boot stuff to your primart drive, too, and ruin whatever was there before. Windows is just not designed to co-exist with other operating systems.

There are several ways to dual-boot. The best way is to disconnect your primary drive when installing Windows to secondary. Then reconnect your primary drive and install Ubuntu on it.

I totally agree with Segfault. Windows does not cooperate well if installed as a second OS.

If I were to do the job, I would first prepare my HD and plan the partitioning of the respective spaces and then install windows first. And then ubuntu next.

But then again, many ways to do this.

It sounds like you used the installation method known as
wubi. In this method, ubuntu is installed as a Windows app
and its partition is contained in c:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk

It is probably a hidden file, so select in Windows explorer
to show hidden files and you can see it. Since you reinstalled
windows to D drive, this Ubuntu installation is borked.

I don't know why you can't boot the live CD though, perhaps
it detects the old installation and is attempting to boot it,
but fails. Maybe deleting the old file will allow you to
boot the CD and install again.
