Angry Xubuntu, syndaemon works, but only sometimes!

Back-story: last time I've played with linux was Ubuntu 7.10. I had recently been thinking of going back, and when I bought this HP Mini 110, I thought it was the perfect candidate for Xubuntu.

My issue is simply that sometimes when I log in, I can start terminal, type "syndaemon -i 3 -d -t -K" and it will work perfectly, whereas other times it gives me the error "unable to find a synaptics device". The inconsistency is so frustrating. Can anyone help with this?

Another thing, is that I had been trying to make a startup script to run it. Unsuccessfully of course, does it sound like its simply because of this issue? But for now this is negligible I suppose.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT - I suppose it might be good to mention that I'm running Xubuntu 10.04

To enable it at boot try :
Applications -> Settings -> Settings Manager -> Autostarted Apps

For the error, check this thread:
    https:/ / bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/549727

    Seem a bug in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

If an update or the solution proposed there don't work please post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log

    Bye
