[SOLVED] Ubuntu 10.04 Installed wireless works but...
Hi Guys,
I'm new here, installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Leonovo Thinkpad 13 yesterday it works fine but if i use the Networkmanager it shows wireless networks in the neighborhood but not my own DLINK network which is a ADSL Router encrypted with WPA-TKIP.
What can be the problem??
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Mick

Have you turned off SSID broadcasting on the router/access-point? WPA-TKIP will not affect your ability to see the SSID of the device unless it is using a version of 802.11 that your laptop is not compatible with.

Thanks for your post, but broadcast SSID isn't on in the router.
Yesterday I rebooted the laptop and wireless showed my wireless network.
I connected to it, it worked for about 2 minutes then it didn't displayed any internet page.
I could not ping etc, it recieved a ip-address in my network but thats all.
I installed the windows drivers which i used in Win 7 with Ndiswrapper but that doesn't make any progress.
Here is the Lspci:
What is the following thing I can try to make it work?Code:00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 Host Bridge 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (int gfx) 00:05.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 1) 00:07.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 3) 00:11.0 SATA controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 SATA Controller [AHCI mode] 00:12.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:12.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller 00:12.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller 00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700 USB OHCI1 Controller 00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller 00:14.0 SMBus: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 SMBus Controller (rev 3c) 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) 00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 LPC host controller 00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 PCI to PCI Bridge 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] 01:05.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. You probably don't want to use the ndiswrapper driver with Ubuntu 10.04 unless nothing works at all. The fact that it worked for a bit is good in that it means the driver is functioning. However, if you did install a Windows driver and firmware with ndiswrapper and such, then you have a conflict. You really need to uninstall that part totally. Do you know what chip set the wireless is using? Execute the command 'lspci' and see if the wireless chip set is seen. You can post the output here if you aren't sure.

Doh! Never mind. I see the lspci output from your previous post... Early morning blind-eye syndrome I think...

Thanks for the solution.
A fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and de kernel update solved the problem.
It works fine now.
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Mick
