    Kubuntu 10.04 won't boot after safe-upgrade

I just ran sudo aptitude update and sudo aptitude safe-upgrade. Now, the machine won't boot.

It's a 64-bit system with two disks. Both show up in the bios, and I have tried booting from both.

The boot process gets past the motherboard splash screen, then the grub countdown, and then it says:

Boot from (hd0,0) ext3 [lots of numbers and letters]
    Starting up...

Then, this error messages appears, very briefly:

    Cannot reserve MMIO region

and then the screen just goes dark.

Any suggestions to what I should look for, and where? Haven't found anything useful by googling.

Are you sure machine is not booting? Maybe it's just the screen mode what's wrong and your display turns itself off?

Press Alt+Ctrl+F4. Does it switch to command line mode?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
