alright let me first say i'm brand new to linux and honestly don't know how to use it very well and i am trying to install java, following the directions is not working i am stuck at
it says bash: version: No such file or directoryCode:chmod a+x jre-6u<version>-linux-i586-rpm.bin
i downloaded the software to the downloads folder firefox uses as default.

nevermind i installed openjdk but now i need to know how to get it to work in firefox

You're definitely not the first to say it, and you won't be the last.
Since your second post says, "Never mind, I fixed it," you might want to start a new thread with whatever problem you're having now. Whether you elect to not start a new thread or not, please give more info. Even the best Linux experts aren't mind readers.
What's not working? What are you trying to do, what were the results, how would you like to change them? What have you tried? What were the results?
Don't give up.

actually i went ahead and did the installation instructions for java, after doing everything firefox poped up with the add-ons thing showing java was enabled etc, now i go to test java and it still does not work, i have re done the install twice but java does not work, java is enabled in firefox.

How are you testing Java? Provide links, if applicable. What are you seeing as a result of the test that convinces you Java is not working. Include any error messages.
Open a console, type
and post the results.Code:> java -version

Use a package manager. Most distributions are well maintained with recent java versions.
