Shuting my screen when using hdmi

So yesterday I had plugged my laptop into one of the tv's at work using HDMI, it worked great but no matter where I played in the setting's I could not figure a way to play the movie and be able to close my laptop lid with out it going into a sleep mode. I tried it in the power management but could not get it to work. Thanks for any input.

    Hello,
    You should:
    run gconf-editor in terminal and
navigate to apps-->gnome-power-manager-->buttons and set lid_ac and/or lid_battery to "nothing" (without the quotes).

Now, in preferences->power-save-manager appears to do nothing.

    Regards

The only options it gives me in the power management is blank screen, suspend, shut down or hibernate.
