    Question Moving files

I just installed Ubuntu 10 on a portable hard drive and was wondering if there is a way from my laptop hard drive to copy and paste files back and forth between the drives. If im logged onto my laptop drive and try to access my other drive it locks me out of doing anything. is there a work around?
    Thanks

What operating system do you have on your laptop drive? This ordinarily should not be any problem but you don't give much information.

If im logged onto my laptop drive and try to access my other drive it locks me out of doing anything
Logged on to what OS on your laptop? try to access how? what does "locks m e out" mean specifically? Nothing happens? Error messages?

If you have a Microsoft OS on the laptop,
it does not natively support the file system
on the removable drive. If, however, you have
Linux on the laptop, it should be able to read and
    write to the other drive.

    Describe your symptoms.

I have Ubuntu 9 on my laptop and Ubuntu 10 on my hard drive. When i copy something on whatever drive i have running and i go into the other drive the paste option is grayed out. When my laptop is running i can copy files from the hard drive onto my laptop drive, but not the other way around.

    Hopefully, this information will help

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount/USB

You can configure what access permissions you
    get when devices mount automatically.
It should have been read/write by default.

It did help. I believe why it doesnt let me copy file onto the hard drive is because of my limited rights, i can copy stuff off but i cant paste because it wont let me copy data onto any of the other accounts on my laptop.
    Thanks for the help
