Are you trying to dual boot linux and windows on your netbook or create a bootable usb thumb drive?
I don't believe you can run XP from a usb thumb drive, but linux is easy enough. Easy way is to install your distro of choice with unetbootin.

It's not a problem to make a bootable flash drive with Windows (WinToFlash),
I just don't know how to install both OS-s on flash drive.

I just used DD to clone my Windows XP to External 8 GIG SD card. It boots and runs off the card (runs slow of course). Did this to back up Windows when I wipe it off this EEEPC 701SD and put a better smoother running operating system on it (AntiX)
DD requires that the file system on flash be the same file system on drive being cloned. Also requires size on destination drive be as big as drive/partition on drive being cloned.
I don't think what you want to do is going to be easy or maybe even possible. You want one part of drive with a bootable Windows Image Iso. And a Ubuntu Image bootable iso on the other part of the drive . Then need to install a bootloader that will choose which partition to boot. Win2Flash can't do this. Neither can Unetbootin. Both want the whole drive.
Easier to install to 2 drives instead. One for Windows. One for Ubuntu.
Google does not even return any hits on this and I have a Multiboot 13 in 1 Linux DVD that was designed by TazMan.
Good Luck with it.Linux Registered User # 475019

I’ve found a programme - MultiBootISOs-USB-Creator – using which is possible to stuff a USB with as many OS-s, as desirable.
... but the problem is – it can’t create bootable XP(only Vista or 7).
I also have read that formatting a USB in UDF allows mounting several OS-s on it, but I haven’t completely understood that article.
Can you describe a bit DD, or give a link for downloading?
And what would be easier to learn: Ubuntu or Knoppix?
Thank you.

Hello and welcome!
You won't need to download dd because it should be included with Linux if you have it installed, or run it from a liveCD/USB. Run man dd from a terminal for the details on using it. There are lots of online tutorials available, too.
In my opinion, you'd be better off going with Ubuntu rather than Knoppix because of the package management. Again, just my opinion.oz

Gentlemen, I presume my previous problem about multibootable USB is partially solved. I chose just download Hiren's boot CD and install Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
Many thanks to everybody.Last edited by oz; 08-30-2010 at 10:30 PM. Reason: removed request for crack help
