Visual Effects / Windows XP in GRUB / Im new here.

ok, well, im new here and too linux. first time running it. im using the ubuntu distro (im trying to sound knowledgeable) and when i goto the visual effects tab and click on normal or extra, it says "desktop effects could not be enabled" also, i have Two hdd's, a 100GB that has windows 7 and ubuntu. and a 250GB that has Windows XP. GRUB didnt notice windows xp though, so its not a boot option. im wondering how i can change that... hope all this makes sense. and preemptive thx

Which version of Ubuntu do you use? 10.04? If you use Ubuntu later than version 9.04, it uses Grub2 which has different configuration files than earlier versions.

Did you have xp installed first and then installed win 7 and Ubuntu on the other drive? Was the xp drive attached when you installed Ubuntu?

Post your partition information for more specific help also. Boot Ubuntu, open a terminal and run the command: sudo fdisk -l (that is a Lower case Letter L in the command). Post here. Have both drives attached when you run the command.

Its not possible to add entries for both Windows OSes in GRUB Menu.

GRUB Menu doesn't load Windows OSes directly. It chainloads ( call ) Windows Boot Loader. You have setup dual boot in Windows XP and Windows 7. Windows Boot Loader is handling both Windows OSes.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
