[SOLVED] No GUI on Fujitsu Amilo La1703

I can't get the graphics working when installing ubuntu on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo La1703. The only versions i have managed to install are alternate once, desktop versions can't eaven start the CD. After the installation I'm just able to start recovery mode with network.
I have tried many thins eg. apt-get update/upgrade, openChrome, via drivers, played around a bit in with xorg.conf ...
    Code:
    lshw -C video
    gives me:
    Code:
    *-display UNCLAIMED
         description: VGA compatible controller
         product: K8M890CE/K8N890CE [Crome 9]
         vendor: VIA Technologies, Inc.
         ...
The only graphic i get working is the logo in the beginning of the start-up.

I have installed (or tried to) the following distributions, all with the same result:
    8.04.4 alternate i386
9.10 alternate i386 - screen right size but only recovery mode
    10.04 desktop i386
    10.04.1 alternate amd64
    10.04.1 desktop amd64
10.04.1 alternate i386 - screen is a bit too small for the terminal
    10.04.1 desktop i386

This doesn't seem to be a very common problem since googleing it hasn't done me much good.

Has anyone encountered similar problems? Would really appreciate some help.

What errors you get with openchrome driver, in Xorg log?

If your distro does not supply drivers you could look here:

I'm not sure if openChrome is working correctly, how do I check it? xorg.0.log is empty at the moment.
I've tried the VIA drivers already with no result.

Set openchrome as video driver in your xorg.conf, start X. The log is Xorg.0.log, not xorg.0.log.

In case you want to build the latest driver by yourself, here's a simple tutorial.

Xorg detected your mouse at device /dev/input/mice.
Please check your config if the mouse is still not
operational, as by default Xorg tries to autodetect
    the protocol.

    Your xorg.conf file is /home/name/xorg.conf.new

To test the server, run 'X -config /home/name/xorg.conf.new'

I compiled and installed the newer openChrome, but same again. I'm running out of good ideas.
By the way I'm running 9.10 at the moment.

Kinda a long shot. I have listened to certain members on other forums where threir display does not work using a certain distro. What they tried was booting up a live cd of a dstro that gets them to a desktop.

Actually, I had a crazy idea. While I wait for a reply, I'm going to reinstall AntiX, which gives me the right resolution, copy xorg.conf from there, then reinstall Debian, and paste Antix's xorg.conf there. I'll let you know how it works.

Like I said. A long shot. Can't recommend a distro though that will give you a working /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to copy over (after backing up original) to test and see.

Than you, that solved the problem:

I loaded a AntiX M8.5 686 live CD (which worked fine) and copied the xorg.conf to the installed ubuntu (9.10) and now everything works like a clock (resolution and everything!)

This is the new xorg.conf file:
