video card not new enough
i am using an on board graphics and i have been using mandriva but i was wanting to change to ubuntu but my video is scrambled. it is also now scrambled on the newest mandriva. would this most likely be i need a new video card or monitor?
I have the older vga connector and not the newest (not sure what it is called) connector. if i need that type of connector can i get an adapter for this connection from my monitor. sorry i am not up to date like i should be. also my monitor is an acer AL1706
what would be a good card that pci express would work? i dont have a whole lot of money but maybe 80 to 100 dollar range?
thank you so much.

VIA Linux Portal
This card of yours can work fine, even supports high-definition video and such.

Post the output of this :
Code:lspci | grep -i vga
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Try Ubuntu Alternate Installation CD. It has text based installer and works fine with all Graphics Cards. You can Graphics Driver easily after Ubuntu Installation.
There isn't any difference in Alternate and Regular Installation CD except Installer's Interface. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
