when i do a live cd of kubuntu 32bit i do not get a task bar. if i i do the 64 but it all works. my cpu's are 64 but but i read that for everyday desktop stuff it is better to use 32 bit. i redownloaded the cd and re burned it but it does the same thing. any ideas would be very helpful.

Have you checked Applets list? Right click on an empty area of Panel and select Task Bar or Windows List.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
