Installing Wireless driver
Hi,
I've been trying to install the linux driver for my wireless car which is an 'Intel wifi link 4965'. I've followed the literature that Intel provide but I keep running into errors.
If some one could please talk me through it I would be very grateful.
(I downloaded the driver from[intellinuxwireless.org/?n=downloads)
(Also I'm a complete Linux noob)
Thanks

What version of Ubuntu are you running? Most of these devices should be supported by Ubuntu out-of-the-box.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!

Yeah, intel wireless chipsets are generally well supported. The 4965 should work out of the box on Ubuntu, and has for some time.
What sort of trouble are you having?

I'm on linux mint 9 so I assume that's based on Ubuntu 10.04.
It just wont connect to my wireless network. The network does at the moment have WPA encryption but I removed that yesterday an I still couldn't connect.
The strange thing is what values I get for signal strength if I'm in the same room as the router I only get about 50% signal but them move futher away and it increases.
I've tried changing a few settings and such like but nothing worked, so I assumed it was the drivers.
I'm fairly sure that its not the router as other computers running Windows, Mac and my Desktop which is on Ubuntu 10.04 can connect to it fine.
Any ideas??
Thanks for the replies

Wireless Help
Hi,
I've been trying to get my wireless up and running for ages to no success. I've changed quite a few settings based on what other threads have said with no luck.
I'm using a sony vaio laptop with an intel wifi link 4965 wireless card, and conneting to a netgear DG834GT.
Here is the results of ifconfig
