Just to clarify:
You dont have a movie in mswmm format.
Because that is a projects file, not a movie file.
I dont know, if there is a linux application that can open the project file. You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Google tells it is a Windows Movie Maker project file and can be opened only by Windows Movie Maker.

whats the difference please?
Many years a go a friend of my wifes converted a video of our kids for us and then wiped the tape
She gave us a disk with this mswmm file on it which we cannot open with windows player. I was hoping Linux would be the solution ...
Any ideas anyone, I'd love to be able to show my kids what they were like when they were small ?
Huge appreciation if someone can tell me

The projects file contains additional information for cutting and editing the movie.
It is not meant for direct playback.
Like Segfault said, the only application to open mswmm is movie maker.
If you do so, then you are able to save in a more common format such as .avi.You must always face the curtain with a bow.

jep.
As I just realized:
There are tons of howtos and even youtube videos out there on how to do that.
I have no idea why, as it boils down to open the mswmm file in movie maker
and then save it as a movie. You must always face the curtain with a bow.

@Kloschüssel: Yes, one would have thought so,
but apparently it does contain the video data as well.
Probably that´s more in line with the vendor lock-in idea :PYou must always face the curtain with a bow.
