Internet not working
I installled ubuntu yesternight, and I've been able to connect to the internet, but every time I try to go to any site it says that the connection has timed out.
Can someone please help me?

Could you please give as a little more information about what's your system setup?
Can you ping foreign hosts on the console? What does ifconfig say? Can you ping your router? Which network card are you using? etc. etc.
That would help us identifying your problem but without we can't help you.

Hello and Welcome!

What he means is... what else have you tested or tried?
Can you ping an address? or your router?
Open a terminal and doDoes it timeout or give a reply?Code:ping www.google.com
In the same terminal, typeand hit <enter>Code:ifconfig
This will tell you if you have an IP address.
And finally... what network card are you using? Are you wireless or wired?
If you don't know what card it is, in the terminal typeand post the output here.Code:lspci

What is this terminal?
And to give some background on this computer, before I had ubuntu on it, it was running xp and got a virus so that the only web browsing application it could use was firefox. Then I installed Ubuntu.

If you are 'connected', then you should be surfing the internet... something has gone awry and we need some info to be able help you.
Since you found the terminal, and managed to get those commands put in correctly, do them one more time. When you get the output from those commands, just copy/paste the output and report back with it.Jay
