    No sound after installing ubuntu

I used to work on fedora and sometimes on ubuntu live cd. At that time there was no problem and even ubuntu played sounds perfectly. But today after I installed ubuntu there is no sound. I saw the sound options and it did not display any drivers installed. My motherboard is ASUS P4BM and the audio is C-Media 8738MX

I too have sound problems on Linux Mint (ie Ubuntu Based). I use an acer x3200 which is dual-booted with Windows Vista and outputs to the LCD TV via HDMI. There is no sound out from the HDMI. Embarrasingly, Vista handles the sound perfectly so it is not the computer. The settings in the PulseAudio control screens all seem to work until I select HDMI out, when the sound vanishes. I am having to listen to Linux multimedia on headphones, and Mint 8 was exactly the same. I never found the answer

I saw this in ubuntuforums.org and it worked awesome.. as of now at least

I have encountered the same problem and not been able to solve it yet.
    Any help appreciated!

edit: I temporarily solved the problem using this method:

    Code:

sudo apt-get --purge remove pulseaudio && sudo apt-get install esound

then reboot. Sound works fine now, no stops, no stuttering, no skipping or fast forwarding. AlsaMixer works as well.
Conclusion: On my system, PulseAudio doesn't work out of the box and none of the countless fixes helped, so I'm dropping it.

    Greetings,
