Video is not running in Ubuntu Netbook Edition

    Hi all,

Desperately need your help. I have Acer Aspire One D532H-2588 pre-installed with Win. 7. I have just installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition as dual boot. I love UNE. Everything is great except video is not working. I only have a blank video screen when trying to watch Youtube and videos on news media web sites. Is there any video driver that I have to download and set up seperately so video will work in Ubuntu?

I love Ubuntu and I certainly don't want to remove it simply because video is not working.

    Thanks so much.

Have you installed the Flash plugin yet?

You can also download a debian/ubuntu installation package directly from Adobe and install it directly. If you go to the Adobe web site and click on the "Get Adobe Flash Player" button, it will take you to a page where you can select for your system. You want the "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+" selection. That should do everything you need.

    Segfault,

Your link sent me to the documentation that is too broad, I think. I don't where to go from there. Anyway, I just went to APPLICATION > UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTER and installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras. It still doesn't work. Now I have a message saying MISSING PLUG-IN right in the middle of Youtube video screen. I thought Ubuntu Restricted Extras is the package that includes Flash plug-in. What plug-in am I still missing? Video is working fine in Win. 7.

    Thanks again.

    Rubberman,

wouldn't it be better to use Ubuntu software management. In case there is an ugrade it will be installed automatically during routine updates.

Sometimes the software management tools are a bit dated. In some cases, it is better to get the software directly from the provider. In the case of flash, I think it keeps up to date by itself, and it does install into your local repository. I know that it keeps up to date on my CentOS system, and I think it does on my Ubuntu laptop as well.
