    Assistance mount DVD-rom drive

I am very new to Linux and using Ubunto.

I was just trying to open a CD for the first time and when I try to open the DVD-rom drive, it says that it is unable to mount. I saw in some other forums that I should open up a terminal and use "su" to switch over to root. However, when it asks for my password, I put in my password for logon and says Authentication Failure.

So I try to put in the Ubuntu disk I have to reload the system, but when I restart the machine, it doesn't read my DVD-rom drive. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong. I'm very stuck and not sure what else to do.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

1.The password for su without parameter is the root password not the user password.

2.To boot on the DVD media, you probably have to select the correct boot device order in the BIOS of the motherboard.

    Thanks for the quick reply

I had already set the boot order in the BIOS, but the system was not reading it. I believe that the DVD-rom is functional and connected correctly. I have used it before. But not 100%

Try another boot dvd media to be sure, but it's the hardware (mb, cable, reader) or the media itself.
Some motherboard have a boot selection menu (pressing F11 or another key in the boot process). Then you can be sure 1.to see the dvd drive in the list 2.select it

OK, before you reload the system...

Are you trying to open a CD / DVD in Ubuntu from the desktop? If so, it should automagically mount. If it isn't we'll have to do some investigation to fins out why.

The first thing I would try is to put another CD / DVD in there and see if that works

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
