    Video obscuring drop down menu

    Hi,

On any video I play, the picture is on top of the drop down menus for the player so they can't be seen- they drop down and work and can see the parts that are to the sides of the video picture. This happens on every video player I have tried -Movie player, GNOME MPlayer, VLC. The image that shows the problem had to be taken with a camera as using the screen capture looked as though the video picture wasn't even there (image also attached). Hope this helps give insight into the problem. Any ideas?

Running Mint 9 on an Elonex webbook. Completely new to Linux so may be missing something obvious.

    Thanks

I think this problem is caused by the video output writing directly to the display memory of your video card which allows much faster output. Can you see the menu if you pause the video (usually space bar on most players) before you open it?

Thanks for your Reply. The problem still occurs even when the video is paused. Do you know if there is any sort of video diagnostic test I can run to provide more info on what is happening?
