    Unhappy Errno 5 input/output error

    Hiya guys,

Everytime I attempt to Install Ubuntu or Mint, I get the above error and I am unsure as to why it keeps happening. I read on other forums it can be due to your optical drive so I tried 4 different burners and 3 different types of CD's.

I know they work fine because I use them for other PC's. I've used them on windows XP, Vista, 7 and Mandriva Linux without a single problem. It's only when attempting to install Ubuntu or Mint that I get these errors and it happens every time.

In the error it also mentions that their may be a problem with your HDD, but I've used that HDD for windows xp through its whole life, I only just reformatted earlier in an attempt to install Linux.

Please if anybody could shed some light on this situation, I would be grateful.
    Thank you in advance.

Firstly, when you have downloded the ISO, check the MD5 sum to make sure it is not corrupted and then, when you burn the ISO to CD, use a slow speed. ISO files are heavily compressed and sometimes this can make a difference.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Ok I'll try that out but the disc I'm using was used to successfully install Ubuntu on an old PC about a month ago, could be possible that it has suffered some damaging though. I'll get back to you on the results.

    Unlikely to be that then...

Re-burnt Mint at slowest possible speed, same problem. My Ubuntu disc came from a magazine called Linux Format (or something like that) it was some special edition about coding, so I know that can't be what's causing the problem.

    Thanks for the help

Thank you for your help, but I decided to install Opensuse instead. Once again thank you and I'll see you around the forums.

Good luck with that one - I liked openSUSE; well the Gnome edition anyway
