Setting up a wireless card in Linux

    Dear All,

I can see that this topic is a favorite for neewbies, so apologies to the old hands.

Linux Guru "waterhead", setup a thread asking for specific data to help us all fix this issue, so here is mine.

    lsusb

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1385:5f01 Netgear, Inc WPN111 (no firmware)

If I cold boot to Windows XP and then re-start (warm) into Linux the WiFi works.

If I cold boot into Linux than the WiFi fails, and I get the lsusb message as shown above.

If anyone can tell me how I get the firmware loaded into the WPN111 every time Linux boots from cold, I will be very happy.

    TTFN.

    Dear JosePF,

    Thanks for the pointer.

The damn solution was to power off the PC...no really.

However, I actually had to turn of the PC at the wall, as the WPN111 was still blinking after the PC was off.

LOrd knows how it was getting power from a shutdown PC, but it was.

A total cold boot caused everyting to fire up ok.

I have two different motherboards that continue to have power after turning off the power supply. If you take the case off, you'll probably also see some LED's are still lit for about 20 seconds after you pull the plug from the wall.
