    Hello and welcome!

    The best tools that I'm aware of for recovering partition tables and data are TestDisk and PhotoRec. You can find both apps on the Parted Magic LiveCD, and instructions for using each app on their respective web pages.

    If you have installed Ubuntu over Windows OS partitions then chances of data recovery are very low. Installer has formatted partition(s) and installed Ubuntu on it.

    As nujinini already suggested, boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD and execute this in Terminal
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    Post output here.

    * It's small L in fdisk -l.

    Sigh... This is a lesson often learned expostfacto (after the sh!t has hit the rapidly rotating air moving device). Before you install a new OS on your computer that contains all of your precious personal, or professional, data, BACK UP THE ENTIRE DISC!!! This has saved my personal/professional bacon more times than I care to count.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    Booting up from OS installed in Hard disk will further increase the chances of data loss. Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD and look for Terminal in Menu.
    Open Terminal and type this code :
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    Post output of above command here.

    ** It's small L in fdisk -l.

    You may, or may not be, able to get any of it back. That remains to be seen.

    However, the more you manipulate files through various means on the partitions in question, the less likely that any recovery tool will ever be able to get it back for you.
