Dualboot-problem, please help. :(
Hi there, I recently managed to dualboot ubuntu with vista on my laptop and it worked wonders for a few days...
However,
after installing some updates while on linux I am now unable to access the Internet when using vista. I've been pulling my hair out for many hours now trying to solve this without success. Internet is still accessible from linux, and vista canl connect to the local network.
I'm unsure what information I should provide, but I'll be stalking this thread until I fix this.
Help VERY much appreciated, I've been trying myself since I got up this morning.

Hi and Welcome !
Linux has nothing to do with Vista. Linux can not alter anything in any other OS unless you edit files/confs of manually.
I would suggest you to check Windows OS Forums for solution. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thanks alot for your reply, guess I just wanted a scapegoat for my problem.
God I hate Vista.

While strictly speaking, that's true, I have an Iomega Bluetooth mouse that I used with a laptop that dual booted Vista and Fedora. Every single time I booted Vista, the next Fedora boot would find the mouse non-responsive. I discovered that if I deleted the mouse in the BT preferences and added it back, it would work. Until I booted Vista again.
This issue is the other way around and with a different kind of device, but if OP doesn't find a solution in MS/Vista forums, he might try deleting the wireless connection in Vista and adding it back.

Another possibility....
Could be that the device is not being completely reset during a reboot. You might try doing a complete 30 second power-off and see if the problem persists.

Good point. This could be the problem.
One of wireless card was not working in Fedora. It was Windows XP and Fedora 12 dual boot setup and I had shutdown machine instead of reboot.
Thread starter has problem in Vista but in my case, it was Fedora's problem. I don't have any such problem in Fedora 13 now.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I have some what of the same problem with my Laptop. It has openSUE 11.2 and Windows XP. What happens when I boot into XP the net card works fine but if I reboot and then go into OpenSUSE the net card will not connect, and if I do it the other way around both will connect. This is what I have done if I boot into XP first I turn the computer off and unplug it power that is and wait for about 2 mins. When I do that it works.

The original issue: if wifi, look for the button to turn it on/off. I notice that even if I have it off in Linux, the Network service will start it. But in Windows... not so much. If it's not wifi, I'd suggest the same reset as above, and reset the tcp/ip for your adapter in vista (google netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt). If that does not work, install virtualbox and the Windowz within uBuntu... problem solved!!! lol

Tried the sweclockers forum, and although many people tried to help me we couldn't solve it.
I've had my share of problems with vista but not me nor the people who tried to help me could fine any problems with my windows settings.
Also, I'm using a wired connection so I'm not sure grayhairweenie's fix would help me?
The reason I think it's because of linux is:
When I woke up yesterday I logged onto vista and had internet, then rebooted with linux got an update-pack at around 100-120MB, installed those and rebooted back into vista... Internet gone.
I'm a complete scrub when it comes to linux I decided to dualboot with it because I currently study Haskell at school and programming Haskell on windows is a *****.
I've been at it for 16 hours and counting (not including 6h of sleep)...
I am desperate please help me.
