Can't boot in Kubuntu after installing

    Hi all,

I have a new Dell 3500 laptop with a dualboot Windows 7 and Kubuntu 10.04. Directly after installing Kubuntu the pc was able to restart without problems. However having shutdown the pc once and restart again it fails to boot in Kubuntu.
No error messages are shown, nothing at all. What happens after selecting Kubuntu in OS's, for a couple of seconds a bar ("-") flashes upper left corner of the screen. After that the screen goes entirely black (as if it were shut off), but the computer is still doing something, as can be "heard" from it.
Does anyone knows how to tackle this problem?

Hello and Welcome to the forums.
It sounds like a video problem. Try booting the machine up and press Ctrl Alt F1 at the Blank screen, does that open a terminal window? If yes, post the output of these commands please
    Code:
    lspci |grep -i vga
    Code:
    cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
You may need to use sudo for each command above.
    Did you update the system?
Also, when you see the screen that asks you to select your boot choice, press the Esc key.......do you see more options listed?

I am not able to acces a terminal in blank screen. No extra options show with pressing Esc in boot choice screen. Also for your information, I am still able to boot in Windows 7. I did not update the system in Kubuntu yet, because I have not yet been able to establish an internet connection.

    ** Weird thing just happened...
I restarted in Windows 7, tried to boot back in Kubuntu and it worked! However this was a one time happening. Apparently my computer behaves somewhat randomly in booting in Kubuntu.
