Stuck in COMMAND LINE MODE
Hi everyone!
I just loaded up the Ubuntu 10.04 onto a newly scratch built computer. It went to the desktop after loading up and asking for my password. I then navigated to SYS>ADMIN>DRIVERS and preceded with download of recommended drivers for Nvadia G430 on-board display adapter. Restarted the computer to activate the new drivers and it's stuck in COMMAND LINE MODE.
I tried Ctrl/Alt/F7 to escape, along with a bunch of other things but nothing will kick this puppy into the DESKTOP. Help me get this computer running, thank you all.Last edited by luckyshot; 10-05-2010 at 09:38 PM. Reason: mis-spelled word

Your new driver is buggy I guess. Since you have nothing to lose,
maybe you should reinstall the system, and do not use this driver, but let
the default driver continue to do the job.

Hopefully resolved....?
I think I got it now. Your right about doing a re-install, thanks for that tip. I would have just tried to slug it out.
When I started the re-install sequence I found that my previous attempts (2) were still there and didn't get plowed under with the format tool. This time I set the tool to format the entire HHD and install the OS clean.
I'm thinking my problems with the COMMAND LINE issue stemmed from the earlier OS installs as I was all over the COMMAND LINE in their activation. I'm going to give that new driver another chance and see if the same thing happens before I try to rely on the dealt drivers. The graphics chip sets on-board are very hot stuff, and I want the most I can get from them.

I'm finally making some headway here. This is what I've done so far...I got very agressive and re-formated the HHD and started over because the OS got real buggy, ended up in COMMAND LINE MODE and couldn't get out of it no matter how many times I re-booted the system.
After doing a new CLEAN INSTALL I was instantly 'net ready' with the USB hard wired to my wireless modem, very cool ! So then I navigated to Hardware Drivers and pulled down a driver set for the graphics engine built onto the mobo.
This driver set crashed the OS on re-boot, so I discovered that it was the culprit of earlier failures and COMMAND LINE issues. So I did another CLEAN INSTALL and re-loaded the driver set again to see if that was it. It was, the drivers for the NVIDIA DeForce 6150 SE/nForce 430 chip set that are acquired from the OS (SYS>ADMIN>HRDWR DRIVERS) are very buggy!
So now I went directly to the NVIDIA driver download site and did a manual download of the latest driver set for my chip set using a Linux based OS @ 64 bit, and downloaded them. Now I have a file that won't RUN, and keeps asking me what do I want to OPEN it with?
Like I know the answer to that !!? The file extension is ".run", now that I have created a file with the illusive driver set (over 40MB)....I can't RUN it !! Chances are it's the same drivers that have been crashing my new OS, but I've got to give it one last try before going home!
Can anyone help me OPEN/RUN this file? PLEASE?
