Connection Problems with Ubuntu and the Clear ISP
I recently stopped using Time Warner for an ISP and started going through Clear. Clear is supposed to be a cutting-edge performer and they have testing networks that the biggies use when developing and testing a new product. So this should work great, right?
Only thing is, whenever I try to use some of the Google services, such as Gmail, it just hangs and finally returns a Site May Have Moved message.
Since a lot of the Google services have secured connections I thought that must be it.
But my bank has secured communications and there is no problem there. Walgreens Drugs, on the other hand, will let me visit their web site but when it comes to refilling a prescription the same thing happens: it hangs and then tells me the web site may have moved.
I was on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) and I'm now on 10.10 (Maverick). The problem remains.
I believe it is some kind of authentication thing, but why would it work with Time Warner and not Clear? Why can I get into my bank account but not Gmail?
These things happen both with and without the Firestarter firewall.
Any ideas?
