    swapping make-3.81 with make-3.80 on Ubuntu 10.0.4

    Hi,

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.0.4 (I am quite new to linux) and I want to swap my current version of make.exe 3.81 with make.exe 3.80 (to be able to setup some other software called geant4).

Now I have located, downoaded and untared make-3.80 in /usr/bin. My question is can I use make3.81, which I still have installed, to create the make3.80 executable?...and eventually delete make-3.81.

I have a link to a make-3.80 executable for cygwin. Can I use this make on my Ubunu system?

    Thanks in advance

    Rich

i'm curious what is wrong with make 3.81? it should work fine, make file syntax should be the same between versions

can you post a specific problem as to why you think you need older version of make?
