    GStreamer has 4 associated plugin packages: base, good, bad, ugly
    The base and good plugins are fully FOSS. Bad and ugly are either non-GPL'd or proprietary. In any case, if you install all of those, you should get the lame plugin. Also, you need to make sure that you have the lame package installed as well.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
