    ubuntu pen drive installation

    hi all,
I have created a pen drive with ubuntu CD image on, i can run the OS from the USB no problem but would really like it to run straight off of my netbooks own hard disk.
The problem is when i go to do the installation process it only gets 4/5ths of the way and then says "ready when you are" but there's nowhere to go after that, it doesn't load anything else, nor can i skip anything.
I have tried partitioning, using the entire disk which is my preference as i have no need for 2 OS's.

I noticed that when i run off of usb the usb has a root access folder that isn't on my netbooks filesystem, obviously it says i dont have permission to copy it over, but strangely the hard disk filesystem has the folder cdrom which isnt on my pen drive...
so very confused, and more so confused as to why it wont fully load all of the installation process.
Would it be easier to just boot off of usb and leave it at that?
does anyone know how this affects installing prgrams and saving documents and other files?
    any help would be great

How did you get the Ubuntu image on the USB? Did you use pendrivelinux, unetbootin or some other method? Is it the latest version of Ubuntu?

You need to be more specific about where the problem occurs, 4/5ths of the way doesn't tell us much. I haven't installed recent Ubuntu versions and I'm sure a lot of other members have not so tell us specifically what steps you succeeded at and where it failed.

I noticed that when i run off of usb the usb has a root access folder that isn't on my netbooks
    filesystem,
Does that mean you have some Linux distribution on your hard drive? You didn't mention that or which one it is. Or is this part of the filesystem that did copy to the drive?

I'm not sure what you mean about just booting off the usb, unless you have something on the drive.

    Important Information to post:
How you created the USB. Other operating systems (if any) and what they are. Steps in install process you succeeded at before it stop. Post partition information. If you don't know how, repost and ask.

i used pendriveliux, and it is ubuntu 10.10
by 4/5s i mean the load bar when its installing it gets to a point saying "copying files" and the bar goes along as it would, but then stops saying "ready when you are" with a drop down menu with loads of codes which i imagine is what it writes to the system yet as i said its actually only about 4/5s of the way and from there i cant do anything at all.

to go from the begining of the install i choose whether to partition or use entire disk (personally entire disk, but have tried the others too)
then it just says install now, and does its thing.
one thing i do know is that it wont let me partition the hard disk on the netbook it says that its in use or cant be found... otherwise there is no partition

we was running linpus lite but things were going wrong hence the change but now its getting more complicated too
