Language Support
One computer .... three users .... three languages. How do you make that happen?
User A speaks English and is happy with English. No problem. User B needs to use Chinese and would like the full system in Chinese. User C needs to use Thai and Chinese. They would prefer their menus to be in Thai and can use iBus for Chinese entry.
How do you set up the system so that each user can select their system language when they login?

What desktop environment are you using? With Gnome, you can add Languages in System->Administration->Language Support . Users can select a different language on the login screen. I don't know how it works with KDE, but there must be something similar.

I think I must be doing something wrong then ...... what you write is really reasonable but it is not what I see. At the login screen I do not see any option to select language, could you please tell me where this is found? Yes, I am using Gnome.
I do have iBus working and can enter all three langauges so I know that the character support is there.... but I appear to be overlooking something obvious ....

Hm I can choose Language, Keyboard Type and Session Type at the bottom of the login screen. I'm using Ubuntu NBR but there shouldn't be a difference since the login screen is the same as far as I know.
I have to choose a user first. When it prompts me for the password, I can change the settings at the bottom.
There is probably another way to choose a different language per default, I don't know it though.

Thank you for staying with this .....

The way to make this work is to go to the login screen and select the user. Then do not enter the password. Click on the user name again and a menu will then appear at the bottom of the screen. Select your language from there. Enter your password and the system will load with the language you just selected.
So .. problem solved
