    Disabled root - Running gparted causes "glibmm-ERROR **"

    Hey, I recently installed Ubuntu (with Gnome) in expert mode and disabled the root account.
    Now I am on Gnome and would like to run gparted and it gives me the following error:
    Code:
    ~$ gksu gparted
    ======================
    libparted : 2.3
    ======================
    glibmm-ERROR **:
    unhandled exception (type std::exception) in signal handler:
    what: basic_string::_S_create

    aborting...
    I ran gparted from the Desktop and the from console (gksu & sudo su -), re-enabled root using "sudo passwd root" but it did not start correctly. Is the problem that I disabled the root account or is it something else and how can I fix it?
    Code:
    Linux extra 2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:45:36 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    Hello & Welcome applejuice!

    My guess is that this has something to do with your disabling root account.

    Why don't you try to run your machine using a live cd and see if the problem persists?

    If not, it means your installation was the cause so perhaps you can consider making a fresh install this time not disabling root account.

    Just a suggestion.

    I know that those tasks work on standard live cd systems.
    Well, there might be a neater way of doing this (f.e. setting the correct options and not just unlocking the root account) but I will give it a try.

    Thanks for the quick response.
