Best way to use Remote Desktop between Ubuntu and Windows? (Problems with VNC)

Okay, in Ubuntu 10.04 I activated the Remote Desktop or whatever Ubuntu's built in remote desktop is, and can connect fine with it using TightVNC on windows. The problem is, the image freezes whenever any graphics-related activity is attempted (games, ATI Catalyst Control Panel, and some system control panels).

I can still click, and it's registered on the host machine, but the image doesn't update on the remote one. I fixed it partially by disabling the fancy visuals, but it still freezes occasionally.

So, I plan to upgrade to 10.10 soon, and try it, but are there any better suggestions for me?
    Thanks.

The problems you describe are just the limitations of vnc. Nomachine seems to smooth things out a little more but watching videos or some other video intensive endeavour is always going to be inferior to actually viewing from the server directly.
