    Ubuntu shutdown problems

    I have a HP All-in-One 200 running Ubuntu 10.10.
When I attempt to shut down or restart using the drop-down menu, the computer freezes up and I have to power off using the On/Off button.
On this computer I have Windows7, Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10. The problem only occurs with Ubuntu 10.10.
I have a SONY VAIO in the same configuration and the problem does not exist there.

May I ask if you are using ccsm in your ubuntu? I encountered this same issue last year and it had something to do with my graphics card and dekstop effects.

    Hello nujinini,
    Thanks for the reply.
To answer your question,no I am not using Compiz Config Settings Manager. The thing is, both computers, the HP All-in-One and the SONY VAIO are configured the same way. Yet I have no problems with the SONY. I originally thought the problem was related to the HP machine, but I rejected that line of thought, considering that I have Ubuntu 10.04 on a separate partition. and there is no problem there. I am at a loss here. I now suspect that the problem exists in the 10.10 kernel, but that is just a swag.
