    lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3600 Series

    dpkg -l | grep fglrx
ii fglrx 2:8.780-0ubuntu2 Video driver for the ATI graphics accelerators

Same problem here. I have an ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] video card w/ kubuntu 10.10 maverick meerkat on a Intel E5300 system. The weird fact is that until two upgrades ago, desktop effects worked perfectly.

    glxinfo reports direct rendering enabled.
Any other 3d applications (Games, Google-Earth, blender) work flawlessly.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Best,
    G.
