Video/flash problems
Hi there im new to ubuntu. Iv managed to make everything work ok except videos. I cannot watch any videos on youtube/dailymotion or any place. I get a black screen with the message "Error ocurred, please try again later". I can watch some embedded videos but thats about it. Games on Facebook dont load either so i suppose their is a problem with flash. Any idea what is up or what my ubuntu is missing?
Thanks
Shteiny

If you don't have a problem with proprietary software: Go to the Adobe Flash Player Download Page, choose "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+" and follow the instructions.
Before that, you can go to the Synaptic Package Manager and uninstall anything that has to do with flash. Some people reported problems when installing Flash when there is already a version installed. This is not essential, though.

The simple way is install the restricted extras package.
Open up a terminal and run the following command
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
If you are using Xubuntu, it is
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras
and for Kubuntu
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras
You will also get a Java Virtual Machine, the MS core TTF Fonts, MP3 playback and a few other bits and piecesIf we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
