audio input not working with network connection

    Howdy-

I am using Ubuntu (Studio) 10.04 (kernel name reads "2.6.32-25-preempt"), and I am having a problem with applications that send audio over network connections (skype, google voice, etc.)- the audio that comes out on the other line sounds like small periodic blips. I figure this must be some kind of clocking mismatch or something?

    - I can record audio just fine using audacity or other recording interfaces.
    - All forms of audio output, including skype and google voice, work just fine (I can hear the person on the other line, but they can't hear me).

Does anybody know how to adjust whatever settings I need to make this work?

    Thanks for reading.
