    Memory Help

My problem is pretty simple but because i am new to Ubuntu every thing is hard to me. ok i have ubuntu 10.10 duel boot with windows. When i first installed linux from a DVD i burned i did not want to mess anything up for my main C:\ drive, so i installed linux on a 4 gb usb drive. I now was wondering if i could transfer or start using my 250 gb C:\ drive that had windows on it. So basically i want to have ubuntu start using my C:\ drive because i am out of room on my usb. I was wondering how to do that. I am a linux noob so be very careful on how you explain yourself thanks.

If it were me, I'd do a fresh install of Ubuntu on whatever hard drive I wanted it on and then transfer any important data from the usb drive over to the new install... a 30 to 60 minute task at most.

if you dont want windows anymore than the easiest thing to do is do a fresh install to the HD your refer to as C:. If you still want to keep windows on there then the by far easiest thing to do is while in windows insert the CD containing Ubuntu. Then install by clicking the Wubi program. If you want help using Wubi you can find it by googling.

Formatting your USB drive will uninstall Ubuntu if it's currently installed on the USB drive.

So basicly formating my usb should fix it, but if it is the same as unpluging the usb when the computer is off and then turning on the computer without the usb, the computer is looking for the usb and does not start windows

That sounds like you need to set the boot order in the bios. How you do that varies by bios but typically you press a key when booting; common keys are Delete, F1, F2, F10, F12 and for my Toshiba laptop you switch on with the Esc key pressed and then press F1. Somewhere in there, you will find the option to change the boot order.

Now, it may be that grub has been written to the MBR on the hard disk and that is what is looking for the USB. If that is the case, pressing Esc when booting, it might be F2 with Ubuntu 10.10, will give you the Grub menu where you can choose which operating system to boot.

To replace Grub with the Windows bootloader, you can use the Windows CD in recovery mode or you can download the SuperGrub live CD and use that.
