I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and i lost my Windows 7 bootloader. How can i retrieve that back? I got Windows 7 on another partition....

    I lost windows bootloader?

    I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and i lost my Windows 7 bootloader. How can i retrieve that back?
    I got Windows 7 on another partition.

    Hello and Welcome.
    Do you still have the Windows 7 Install disk?
    Did you really lose the bootloader or did you install Linux and now you are seeing the Linux bootloader? If this is the case, can you not boot into Windows from the Linux bootloader?

    No i don't have installation CD anymore but i will get it if needed.
    I'm not seeing any loader because my PC automatically runs Ubuntu. :/

    When the machine reboots....just before it starts booting Ubuntu, press the esc key or spacebar. It should bring up a grub menu that lets you select Ubuntu or Windows.

    It is actually a SHIFT button in GRUB 2 ... anyway i can't choose nothing but Ubuntu and memory test :/

    Well in that case, I guess the next best thing to do is boot up Ubuntu and try this command.

    sudo update-grub

    Tried that and a lot other things like SuperGrub booting, trying to save things with windows recovery disk (though i didn't try windows installation CD yet)

    You could try the fixmbr command with Windows and then re-install Grub. That might help but I really don't know.

    Yeah i tried it but it didn't help..... Don't know why... ah nevermind i think i'll reinstall win 7 again
