    Can't get flash running.

I am running ubuntu 10.10 dual booted with windows 7. I have tried to install it by just going to a flash video and hitting install missing plugins, and that didn't work. I then tried to enter sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree and that also did not work, it just showed this.

    mark@mark-Satellite-A505:~$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
    [sudo] password for mark:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
    flashplugin-nonfree
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/1,770B of archives.
After this operation, 41.0kB of additional disk space will be used.
    Selecting previously deselected package flashplugin-nonfree.
(Reading database ... 127580 files and directories currently installed.)
    Unpacking flashplugin-nonfree (from .../flashplugin-nonfree_10.1.102.65ubuntu0.10.10.1_amd64.deb) ...
    Setting up flashplugin-nonfree (10.1.102.65ubuntu0.10.10.1) ...

I'm not very experienced with terminal, but most people had this work. Does anyone know why it did not work?

That's just the normal output of the installation routine, which tells you what it's doing right now.
After restarting your browser Flash should work fine.

to restart the browser, would that just mean closing firefox? Because I did that, would having chrome open effect it as well?

Each browser which shall be able to use Flash has to be restarted in order to load the newly install plugin.
If you have restarted Firefox and Flash still doesn't work, type about:plugins into your address bar and see if the flash plugin is loaded at all.

I went to about: plugins and flash does not show up on the list of loaded plugins, why would it not be loading. The only flash is video/flv

But video/flv is provided by another plugin such as vlc or gecko-mediaplayer, right?
It could be that Flash is not installed in the right direction. First please make sure it's no disabled in your Add-on settings. If it's not then try to find it with locate:
    Code:
    locate libflashplayer.so

    I've never used flashplugin-nonfree, instead I install ubuntu-restricted-extras using

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

This installs, Flash, the MS Core Fonts, a JVM among other useful bits and pieces. It actually goes and gets what it needs from the web and I have never had it fail on me.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
