Kyocera FS-2020D printer does not work
Hi all,
I have a Kyocera FS-2020D and Ubuntu 10.10 operating system. I followed the manufacturer instructions to install the printer, but it does not work.
Cups always says processing and than nothing happens. I use PCL 6 emulation in the printer but tried the KPDL also.
I contacted the Kyocera support, and they provided me a Mac OSX driver and they told me that will work because linux and mac are unix based systems...
Thank you in advance all help,
Gergely H.

Hello and welcome to the forums!
If you have CUPS installed properly you should be able to download the PPD file for the FS-2020D that is supplied by Kyocera:
http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/...a_FS-2020D.PPD
... then drop a copy of that file into the /usr/share/cups/model folder (root permissions needed for that), then restart CUPS, or reboot your machine
... then open a web browser and use the CUPS interface by entering localhost:631 into the browser location bar, and then add/configure your printer.
If it works properly, be sure to copy the steps for use later should you need them.oz

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
I did exactly what you wrote, that's why I don't understand what's the problem.
The driver is installed correctly, cups says the printer status is idle, and if I print a job, it stays on processing status.
I tried to print from command line. I run this command:
echo -en "Hello World!" > /dev/usb/lp0
But I never got back the prompt. Maybe this is some sort of communication problem related to the kernel? (There is no problem printig from windows)

Sorry that didn't work. It's always worked fine for me, but then I don't run Ubuntu, nor do I have any Kyocera printers, so I'm unable to test it on this end.
I did google the issue a bit but couldn't find anything helpful, and frankly I'm at a loss on why it's not working. With any luck, maybe another Kyocera owner will chime in with some tips to get you past this hurdle. If I should think of something, I'll post back.oz
