    Ubuntu re-instillation help?

So I got Ubuntu 10.10 recently, and I think I got a really bad download because things really aren't working right. I tried re-downloading from other sites, and since I'm unable to burn anything runable onto a CD-R, I had to put the .iso on a flash drive. I changed the boot order in the BIOS to boot from the USB before the hard drive, and after restarting the computer, it says that the NTLDR is missing, and I have no idea what this means, or how I can fix it. I've tried snooping around as usual, but I think I need some extra help on this one.

    Sincerely,
    MisterDood

Did you try burning a CD with the ubuntu iso image?
Did you select "burn as an image" on your image burning software:
If you want to use a usb/flash drive, download and use unetbootin to create a bootable flash drive.

If you have your usb set to first boot priority in the BIOS, then your install on the flash drive is definitely bad. The message about NTLDR being missing is a windows error. That is a boot file for xp and earlier versions of windows. Do you or did you have xp or some other version of windows installed?

Sorry for not getting back at this yesterday, my computer went stupid. Anyways, I never had XP or before on here, but I do have Vista, and I'm going to remove it once I have Ubuntu installed and working.

Also, I tried burning it onto a disk a few times, and regardless of my method, it would always burn the file on the disk, and when it came time to eject the disk, it would say there was some kind of error. It might just be the program (I'm using Basero I think). Anyways, I'll try another download and see how it works.

I've always used k3b so I'm not familiar with Brasero. In k3b there is an option under the Tools tab that says Burn as Image. You should have something like that in Brasero. It won't work if you burn it as a data file.

Did you do the md5checksum? There are usually instructions on how to do it on any download page. That will tell you if the download is good.

I'd download directly from the Ubuntu site, maybe you did?

The ntldr error refers to an xp and earlier windows boot file. There is and was no ntldr file in vista.

Well, I installed XP on a virtual computer on my old version of Ubuntu that's now deleted, but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. Also, I have no idea what the md5checksum is. I'll be sure to look into k3b sometime tonight or tomorrow morning, and I'll get back to you on it. Thanks for the help. And yes, I did download from the Ubuntu site by the way.
