lol im such a noob.. ahaha how do i open preferences... also, when i installed the notebook edition,, it doesn't show my icons on the desktop.. :/...

    In Ubuntu, Your preferences should be under the System Menu at the top left of your screen.

    In Kubuntu, You'll want to find "System Settings" (Favorites or under Applications>Settings or Applications>System).

    I'm not sure what to tell you about the icons. It may be a bad installation, however I would wait for some other replies before you call it a wash and start over.
