Strange problem with LiveCD
I've made a Live CD of version 10.04 on a machine running 10.04 (amd64). The disk boots fine on a 2nd machine but does not boot on the machine that created it. The CD/DVD is new and works for other things so I don't think it is this. The Live CD gets to the ISOLINUX screen but instead of "Loading" the screen goes blank and the system shuts down. I've tried everything I can think of (the disk works fine on another machine). Anybody had a similar experience? Thanks.

Just guessing from the slim info available, but I would say that while the 1st machine copied the file ok, some of its hardware is incompatible with 10.04. usually this is the graphics card. Use an alternate install, when you get to the graphics part, don't use the default setting. It will have Vesa and another option. Try the Vesa driver, if that doesn't work try the other option.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think it is a hardware incompatibility problem because the machine is currently running 10.04. One new piece of info however - my PS just died in a puff of smoke (I'm on a different machine now). Could a failing PS cause this type of behavior?

I don't know, but a failing psu can cause all sorts of havoc with programs and harware. the best way to tell, is to replace the psu and see if that clears up your problem.
