    Help with a file status

    I am kinda new to linux and Ubuntu so please bear with me . Could anyone tell me the command I would use to check the status of a file? If it is running or not running? I am working on making a control panel specifically for a server through the web, but not sure what command I would use for linux to check to see if the file is running.

    If you're talking about a program file, the command ps ax shows which programs are running.
