Help with videos and audio playing very fast

I have looked everywhere, and I cant find a solution to my problem. Basically, every type of multimedia plays extremely fast. I.E., a 4 minute song can play in about 40 seconds. Both audio and video do this. Streaming audio/video, DVDs, and audio CDs all do this.

    I am using Ubuntu 10.10

ANY help or ideas would be appreciated. I still don't know Linux super well, so if you need some info, please let me know how to get it. Thanks.
