Hello,

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 TLS on my mothers netbook as openSUSE came with the netbook and wasnt very easy to use for her. Had lots of problems getting the UNR installed but finally got the desktop version installed with no problems and no errors appearing.

Its an HP 2133 and the sound seems to be hit or miss, sometimes it will work fine and after reboot it will be off completely no matter how much i play with the volume and the mutes, been looking at forums quite some time now, did various commands and also had to install alsamixer as well, however when i open it its just white screen with the menu, cant actually see anything.

I had no sound when it first installed and the below command was added to the alphabase.conf, no idea if thats a coincidence or if it actually fixed it however its still hit or miss.

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1

On an unrelated note, i also cannot shutdown or restart this think since i put ubuntu on it , if i select shut down or reboot, it goes back to a logon screen, a button on the bottom right lets me choose shut down or restart on this logon screen but that doesnt do anything, ive had to manually shut it down by holding power button everytime since.

Any help would be appreciated thanks!
