How to get ubuntu online via 3G cell phone?
I am currently without dsl line at home.
I can not get xubuntu connected to internet and that has caused massive problems for me.
First off let me pardon myself for having posted this issue over at ubuntuforums as well, but I have been struggling for over 3 days now with now replies so it is time to try different forum.
I have tried to get ubuntu online directly via usb connection to a HTC Touch cell phone with windows mobile 6.5. And I found a thread that was spot on for this and really thought things was peaches. So I followed this thread (sry cant post links due to new member restrictions)
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869229
but the lack of svn turned it all into havoc.
That didnt work as I dont have subversion installed and I cant seem to get it installed either cause of dependencies trouble. I am aware of the:
packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/subversion
but as I seen before manual install is really impossible because installing one deb packages means you are still missing dependencies and installing will not be possible before broken dependencies are fixed.
So I then figured that using the windows mobile always gets the windows xp laptop access to internet so why not just share the connection? Well guess what that didnt work either. I got the famous error:
I have removed the unmanaged switch I have and replaced that with a Linksys router with dd-wrt firmware v24. Still would not work to share connection.A LAN connection is already configured
with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing
Here is myCode:sudo dhclient

Ipconfig on windows give this result:
Here is the part for the usb cable connection between windows mobile cellphone and windowspc:

And this is for the wired lan connection via Linksys router:
Clearly the two connections are now on different subnets, right?Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
1: What else can I try to be able to share connections?
2: Can anyone spot any wrongdoings here?
3: How can I get subversion and all dependencies installed manually?
I do need help pls because I can t really do any updates or installs via terminal before I have the xubuntu box online again. If you dont have specific advices I will just as happy listen to any general ideas or thoughts on what else to try out in order to correct the lack of internet.

I have only ever attempted to share an internet connection - it was a wireless LAN at that - in Windows 7. Never in XP.
I'm assuming that you followed the steps outlined here, on your XP machine?
If so, what port did you have your XP machine plugged into on the switch? I would guess that it needs to be in port #1
I'm also assuming that you're telling your other machine to obtain an ip address via DHCP? Make sure that you set the gateway to the ip address of your XP machine.
I read somewhere recently, where someone else was having a similar issue with their DHCP setup. Once they adjusted their gateway, it worked. I'm not saying that it will work for you too...but it's a start.

Ahh changing the gateway seems plausible. Cause when sharing connection win xp turns into a DHCP server. So far I have tried to run router as DHCP, and even deabled DHCP on the router. But I will set getway to ip of win xp pc.
Cant test just right now cause I am @work but I will try it out as soon as I get home and will post an update with status when done.
Thx a lot for you post.
